Celtic Music is rich and vibrant in Western Newfoundland. Some of the Scots who came to the Cheticamp area of Cape Breton, NS moved on to take agricultural land grants in the fertile Codroy Valley of Newfoundland. ... here's a lively fiddle tune composed by Joe Aucoin who lives in the Codroy ...

MUSIC  LESSONS

call 902-404-8288  or  email satbruce@hotmail.com

Beautifully hand crafted instruments like the Della Noce are the result of traditions of this family accordion business established in 1925; having been passed on from father to son, right up to the present day; from Loreto Della Noce to his son Giuseppe, to his son-in-law Ganni Falconi, the current owner of the company. Todays production of acccordions is faithful to the working methods of the past.  I especially like this  Organetto Ad ... right up my alley  :)) :))

 Tullochgorum

This selection from the playing of Natalie MacMaster. The Scottish tune and song has long been used as a showpiece tune and distinct resemblances go back to 1612-1628. Two Skinners ... Rev. John Skinner and J. Scott Skinner have been involved in the shaping of this tune. At least three Cape Breton fiddlers including Mary MacDonald who learned her setting from fiddler Sarah MacArthur play variations of her tune. When completed our students will be playing 90 measures of Natalie's arrangement in group format                un-accompanied by piano.  So keep watching and listening for up-dates....this video, our first rehersal covers 53 bars at a slower pace.

  "Tantallon Strings"

In October 2011, a group of our students assembled on their own initiative for practice and to prepare for playing in public. Their ages range from 10 - 13 yrs and they now call their group "Tantallon Strings". Instruments played include fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and keyboard. Their first public performance was October 23, 2011 at the White Hills long term care facility in Hammonds Plains, NS. On Dec 4th they performed at the new retirement facility "Northwood at the Park" in Bedford West. The attached picture and this story has been published in the local Masthead News as well as the December 2011 issue of The Maritime Fiddler.
